From Graveyard Shifts to Grave Shift Coffee

After serving 30 years as a first responder, I came to appreciate something most people overlook: the world never stops.

During my law enforcement career, I spent 18 years on a SWAT team and 15 years working investigations, leading teams through some of the most demanding situations imaginable. But regardless of the assignment, the rank, or the hour, there was one thing nearly every first responder had in common:

Coffee.

Whether it was a patrol shift at 2:00 a.m., a homicide scene that stretched until sunrise, or a middle-of-the-night call-out that pulled us away from our families, coffee wasn't a luxury—it was part of the job.

It fueled long nights, difficult investigations, emergency responses, and countless hours spent serving our communities when most people were asleep.

But too often, the coffee available during those shifts was an afterthought—stale, burnt, flavorless, and simply, just good enough to get by.

The people carrying some of society's most demanding responsibilities deserved something better.

When I retired, I decided to build the company I wished existed during my own career.

That's how Grave Shift Coffee & Tea was born.

The name represents more than overnight work. It represents the people who answer the call, solve problems under pressure, and keep showing up when everyone else is off the clock.

As someone who spent decades working those hours, I also know the reality: you brew with whatever equipment is available—a drip machine in the break room, a pod brewer in the command post or dispatch center, a coffee maker in the sergeant's office, or hot water and a French press during a long deployment. That's why we offer specialty-grade coffee and premium tea in a variety of formats. Whether you prefer whole bean, ground coffee, single-use pods, premium instant coffee, loose-leaf tea, or ceremonial-grade matcha, we have your back.

Every coffee we offer starts with specialty-grade beans sourced from respected growing regions around the world. Specialty-grade coffee represents the highest tier of quality, scoring 80 points or higher on a 100-point scale and meeting strict quality standards from farm to cup.

We're part of a collective of independent coffee companies that share a dedicated commercial roasting operation. This allows us to maintain professional roasting standards, ethical sourcing practices, and consistent quality across every roast.

Freshness and flavor are two of our core principles.

Rather than relying on large inventories sitting in warehouses for months, we roast in small, frequent batches and prioritize rapid fulfillment. Many orders are roasted and shipped within 24 to 48 hours, helping ensure every bag arrives with the flavor, aroma, and quality coffee lovers expect.

Coffee is our foundation, but it's not our only passion.

We also offer a carefully curated selection of premium loose-leaf teas and ceremonial-grade matcha sourced with the same commitment to quality.
