The world doesn't stop when the sun goes down.

Every night, while most people are home with their families or asleep in bed, someone is answering the call, standing watch, and ready to respond.

A nurse beginning another twelve-hour shift.

A paramedic heading to another emergency.

A corrections officer walking another tier.

A tow truck operator working the shoulder of a busy freeway.

For the people who keep the world running after dark...

The shift never really ends.

I know because I spent thirty years living it.

Thirty Years of Service

For thirty years, I had the privilege of serving in law enforcement and working alongside some of the finest officers, deputies, firefighters, paramedics, and first responders I've ever known.

Over those three decades, I worked nights, weekends, holidays, investigations, tactical operations, and countless hours away from my family.

No matter the assignment...

No matter the rank...

No matter the hour...

One thing rarely changed.

The coffee.

Whether it came from a gas station, the sergeant's desk, a hospital vending machine, a restaurant, or the station break room, it usually wasn't something you looked forward to.

It was simply fuel.

Something you drank because you needed to make it through the shift—not because you enjoyed it.

More than once, I remember thinking...

“There has to be something better.”

The people carrying some of society's greatest responsibilities deserved better than “just fuel.”

When I retired in 2025, my commitment to service didn't end. It simply took a different form.

I founded Grave Shift Coffee & Tea with one mission:

To serve the people who continue answering the call, serving our communities every day and every night.

Today, our company is built on the same principles that guided me throughout my career.

That's why we roast every order only after it's placed. Your coffee isn't sitting on a warehouse shelf for months before it reaches your doorstep. It's roasted specifically for you, packaged with care, and shipped at its peak.

These aren't marketing slogans.

Service Doesn't End at Retirement

One of the greatest lessons I learned over thirty years wasn't about policing.

It was about people. Some of the moments I'm most proud of didn't happen during tactical operations or major investigations.

They happened while wrapping Christmas gifts for families during the holidays.

Supporting athletes at Special Olympics events.

Watching Simpson, our department's therapy dog, bring comfort to officers, professional staff, victims, and community members during some of life's most difficult moments.

Those experiences reminded me that service isn't defined by a badge.

It's defined by how you treat people. Retirement didn't change that. It simply gave me a new way to continue serving.
